Jack Clarence Collins' Obituary
Jack Clarence Collins, age 76, passed away at home Monday afternoon, September 22, 2008, following a long illness. Jack was born in Muskegon on July 14, 1932 to Bernard L. and Johana (Hoekenga) Collins. Jack enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1949, the beginning of a 20 year career in the military. He married the former Vivian Arlene Sweet in Colorado Springs on October 4, 1951. Sgt Collins retired from the military in 1969 and moved to New Hampshire. Following his retirement from the military, Jack was employed at Raytheon and then retired from the Omhron Co in 1991, returning to the Muskegon area. Jack spent much of his retirement years fishing salmon on Lake Michigan with his wife, Vi, and was a member of the American Legion Post in Grand Haven. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; son, Mark Collins of Byron Center; half sister, Lori Ellis of Muskegon; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and his son, Vance. The Funeral Service will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 Friday, 11:00 A.M. Military Rites under the auspices of the Grand Haven American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation: Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions: Harbor Hospice.
