Jack D. Twiest's Obituary
Jack Dale Twiest, age 72, of Nunica passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born April 9, 1934, to August William and Mildred M. (Bond) Twiest in Pierson, MI, he married Joyce Evelyn Dykstra on March 12, 1954, in Muskegon.
Jack retired from Grand Haven Stamped Products and was formerly employed by Challenge Stamping and Porcelain Company and Bayou Marine and Sports in Spring Lake. Jack was an avid hunter and sportsman who truly enjoyed flying and working toward his pilot’s license with his cousin, Dave Mooney. He also enjoyed motorcycling, taking many trips around the country (visiting every state in the Continental United States) with his wife and friends. Following retirement, Jack and Joyce enjoyed their motor home with winters spent in Florida and exploring the south. Jack was especially a family man who enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he instilled in them a love of nature and the out-of-doors.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce; 3 daughters: Victoria (Kim) Harthorn of Duluth, MN, Bonnie (Kork) Christopher of Spring Lake, and Teresa (Daryl) German of Nunica; a son, Melvin (Maryann) Twiest of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren: Trisha, Becky, Adrienne, Chris, Jesse, Bryan and Adam; 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua, and 2 very soon to be born, Luke and Jack. One brother, Gilbert (Linda) Twiest of Pennsylvania; a sister, Gertrude Knight of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A time of remembering and sharing will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Friends may meet the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of North Ottawa Community, http://www.noch.org/hospice.html, are appreciated.
