Jack D. VanderKooi's Obituary
Mr. Jack D. VanderKooi, age 70, on Thursday morning, March 11, 2010, went home to be with his Savior. He was born December 27, 1939 in Muskegon to John and Lucille (Walker) VanderKooi. Mr. VanderKooi was the owner/operator of Van’s Printing, a family business, for 23 years, and prior to his retirement in December of 2007 had also worked at Great Lakes Downs. Jack was a former Little League baseball coach, was the past president of the Lake Michigan Youth Football League, the Beach League Recreation Club, and the Fruitport Lions Club, and also had been on the Fruitport Twp. Planning Board and the Fruitport Twp. Parks and Recreation Board. On February 10, 1978 he married Donna R. Medacco and she preceded him in death on February 28, 2008. SURVIVORS include 7 children, Greg (Barb) VanderKooi of Cedar Springs, Beth Ann (Tom) Brehm of Fayetteville, NC, Msgt. Jeffrey (Brenda) VanderKooi of South Bend, IN, John M. Plouhar, David A. Plouhar, Amy (Dave Kueffner) MacNeil all of Muskegon, Mark (Jennifer Johnson) Plouhar of Manistee; grandson, Johnathan Plouhar and 27 other grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, John (Thelma) VanderKooi of Palmetto,FL, Lyle (Eleanor) VanderKooi of Gold Canyon, AZ, Leo (Carolyn) VanderKooi of Muskegon; sister, Jeri (John) Hamil of Crossville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, James, Don, and Harry VanderKooi; and 3 sisters, Ida Cline, Lucille Hoffman, and Dora Schutter. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Christian Care Senior Living Community for their loving care and support. SERVICES will be 10:00 AM Monday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 with Pastor Don Letson of Broadway Baptist Church and Chaplain Dwayne Johnson of Transport for Christ officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday. MEMORIALS to Broadway Baptist Church or Transport for Christ will be appreciated.
