Jack J. Goldberg's Obituary
Mr. Jack Goldberg, age 83, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, afternoon at his home. He was born August 19, 1921 in North Muskegon to Louis & Marguerite (Vandervest) Goldberg and has been a life resident of the area. In 1940, he established with his brother Bill, a gas station on the corner of Apple & Quarterline. Then from 1942 -1946 he proudly served his country during WW II with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he operated Goldberg Battery Service until 1974; at which time he semi-retired and took over his father’s strip mall on Apple & Quarterline. He retired in 1997. Jack was a member of VFW Post # 3734 and loved his dog, Daisy, automobiles and camping with his family. On October 6, 1951 he married the former Gloria Huntoon and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marie Karafa, whom he sadly missed and her husband Bill; 3 granddaughters, Amanda, Sharon & Jessica and brother, William Goldberg. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Brian & Gail Goldberg of Muskegon and Edward & Penny Goldberg of Grand Haven; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Tracey, Dallas, Jacob, Christopher and Patrick Goldberg, Jason Karafa & Sarah Dawson; 3 great-grandchildren, Austin, Stormy & Cameron. SERVICES will be 1 PM Friday at Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210) with Pastor John H. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mona View Cemetery. VISITATION with Jack’s family will be 7-9PM this evening (Thursday). MEMORIAL GIFTS to Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana will be appreciated. Jack’s family would like to thank Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana, Dr. Kevin Kiley and caregivers, Romella, Judi, Jennifer and Dallas for the wonderful love and care they provided these last few months.
