Jackson Lawrence Selb's Obituary
Jackson Lawrence Selb transitioned from this life into light on Friday, August 16, 2024, after a long struggle with a terminal illness. Jackson was born on April 2, 1992, and begun his life in Fruitport, Michigan. He celebrated the addition of his brother Alex, when he was three years old. He had a winning smile and uncanny connection to animals.
Jackson was a kind, generous, and responsible child who never quite realized his own worth. He dabbled in theater, soccer, and wrestling. He excelled at mixed martial arts and competed successfully at the national level, amassing an entire room full of trophies and awards.
Jackson moved to Grand Haven, Michigan as a teenager, and graduated from Central High School. He worked in retail full time until his health required him to cut back his hours. Most recently, Jackson worked at Peace Frogs, where his charm was on full display. He was appreciated by staff and customers alike, for his conscientious work and customer service skills.
Jackson’s true gift was being the most amazing father to Silas Ray, who was born on April 28, 2019. Despite Jackson’s chronic pain and exhaustion, he rocked his son every day as a baby, played with him every day as a toddler, and never let him go without. Silas will always have cherished memories of his dad swimming with him at Pottawatomie Park, battling him with Nerf guns, and leading him on nature hikes. Jackson was proud to purchase and renovate a house for Silas, creating a home that was filled with warmth, comfort, stability, and backyard magic.
Jackson demonstrated incredible courage throughout his entire life, as he faced obstacles no child or young adult should have to navigate. He will be forever in the hearts of his parents, Joseph Henry Selb, and Barbara Lee (Leif) VanHorssen; his brother, Alexander Dean Selb; grandmother, Linda Rowell; and his precious son, Silas Ray Selb.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, August 23, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Visitation will take place 5-7 PM Thursday, August 22, 2024 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rather than sending flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Jackson Selb Discretionary Trust. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
