Mr. Jacob Everett "Jake" Veltman Sr.'s Obituary
Jake Veltman, Sr., age 73, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on May 28, 1941 to Junior and Grace (Nummerdor) Veltman and was a life resident of the area. Jake was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on a ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He had been employed by the paper mill for 39 years before retiring from Sappi Fine Paper Products. Jake was a member of Kainay Community Church, a life-member of the AMVETS Baldwin Chapter, American Legion Post #9 and the Muskegon Vikings. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and continued to hunt despite his paralysis in 2005. On July 8, 1978, Jake married the former Barbara Bell in Muskegon and she survives him along with six children, Cindy (Jeff) Smith, Rhonda (Michael) Keller, Jake (Tammi) Veltman, Jr., Theresa (Mark) McGettigan, Joe (Debbie) Veltman and Steven (Stacy) Thomas; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Rodney Veltman and two sisters, Gerri (Jerry) Cherry and Sally (Chuck) Rundquist. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2014 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Pastor Chip Hackney officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2014. MEMORIALS may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to Jerry Welcome’s Disabled Veteran’s Hunt.
