Mrs. Jacqueline "Jackie" Pringle DeVries' Obituary
Mrs. Jacqueline Pringle DeVries, age 87, passed into our Lord’s arms on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. She was born July 3, 1924 to Benjamin and Nina (Pringle) Salisbury and was a lifelong resident of Muskegon having graduated from Muskegon High School in 1943. She was employed at the Muskegon Chronicle and later worked in the office at S.D. Warren Paper Mill. She did volunteer work for Hackley Hospital and was a hostess at Mr. Fables from 1985-1987. In 1947, she married Joseph VanderMolen. Jackie was a den mother and a brownie leader when her children were growing up as well as taking care of other children in her home. She married Peter W. DeVries in 1961 and together, they established Pete’s Shoe Box where they worked together until his retirement in 1985. He preceded her in death in 2003 after 42 years of marriage. She continued working in the store after their son purchased the business. Her church, Calvary, was her cherished extended family and an important part of her life. She served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, Awana worker, the funeral committee and most recently a greeter and deaconess. Jackie was an amazing, vibrant, compassionate woman. She was totally devoted to her family and God. She was an exemplary example of God’s love to all that knew her. She is survived by her son, James (Cynthia) VanderMolen of Muskegon; daughter, Janelle (Jerome) Koval of Fruitport; sister, Sally Schuelke of Muskegon; 2 step-children, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Austin of Florida and Gail Malkiewicz of Canton; grandchildren, Christina (Virgil) Thompson, Lori (Steve) Trautner, Glen (Heather) Stewart of Arizona, Garth VanderMolen; great-grandchildren, Mason & Andrew Jensen, Dylan VanderMolen, Matthew & Amber Thompson, Tessa, Emery and Ali Trautner; and extended family. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, David Balcom, one sister and 2 brothers-in-law. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Calvary Church of Fruitport, 5873 Kendra Rd., with Pastor Bill Rudd officiating. VISITATION will be held 3-5 PM Friday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at Calvary.
