Jacqueline M. Somerville's Obituary
Jacqueline M. “Jackie” Somerville, age 57, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 13, 2020. She was born on August 3, 1962 in Muskegon to James H. and Anne L. (Hodges) Lawie, and resided in the area all of her life. Jackie was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She owned and operated Jackie’s Hairworks for many years. Jackie was diagnosed with breast cancer 14 years ago. She has fought the darkest beast with the bravery and strength that surpassed anyone’s expectation; especially her doctors; as the cancer metastasized and invaded her. Many who knew her, thought she was in remission because she did not let cancer define her. She did not wear this on her sleeve. Jackie always looked amazing, had an infectious smile, drew people in, shared her humor, her positive attitude, and she didn’t bring the party, she was the party. She has an amazing (amazing) testimony from God of healing, bravery, strength and tenacity; and she has taken that; and stormed heaven’s gate. Jackie was well known for playing the ukulele in the community and around the camp fire with lifetime friend, Gina Faino. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going on family trips, and being a Grammy was her passion and one of her greatest reasons to fight. On October 9, 1982, she married Kirk Somerville, and he survives her along with three children, Joshua (Megan) Somerville and their children: Hazel, Otto, George and Lucy; Kaitlin (Jesse) Valentin and their children: Leo, Vincent and Nora; and Annie (Cameron) Jowers; two sisters, Kathy (Pat Somerville) Carpenter, Joni (Troy) Hall; two brothers, James “Jim” Lawie and Michael (Shelley) Lawie; many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Lola M. Somerville. Jackie was preceded in death by her mother, Anne; her father, Jim; and father-in-law, Virgil L. Somerville. PUBLIC VISITATION will be held outdoors under the south portico on Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 5-8:00 PM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11 AM Friday, June 19, 2020 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Godfrey Onyekwere presiding. Memorial Contributions to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Music Therapy Program will be appreciated. Share memories with the family online at http://www.sytsemafh.com
