James "Jim" Alviar Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. James “Jim” Alviar Sr., age 84 of Muskegon, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Jim was the first born to Cesario and Phyllis Alviar on May 12, 1940 in Grand Haven, Michigan. He is survived by the love of his life, Mary (Gallegos) who he married on May 11, 1963 and raised their 5 children; James Alviar Jr., David Alviar, Juan (Mark Malmstrom) Alviar, Theresa (Randy) Morehouse, Raul (Wendy Wilson) Alviar, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, siblings; Maria (Joe) Langley, Cesar Alviar, Guadalupe Alviar, Daniel (Kim) Alviar, Johnny (Carol) Alviar, Patricia Chalko, George (Ginger) Alviar, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Cesario and Phyllis Alviar, and brothers; Fredrick, Richard, Peter, Francisco (Pancho), and Henry.
Jim enlisted into the Marine Corps at the age of 17 with the consent of his parents. He was a mechanic by trade and retired a shop manager from Sears Automotive. Jim was involved in coaching track and field and cross country in some capacity for 40 years in the Oakridge School District. “Coach A” was very passionate about building relationships with athletes, other coaches and parents in his coaching career. Jim loved auto racing, Detroit and Michigan State sports and adored spending time with his grandchildren and great -grandchildren.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held from 1-4 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the VFW Derezinski Post 7729, 6285 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442, with Military Rites performed at 1 PM.
