Mr. James W. "Jim" Anderson's Obituary
Mr. James W. Anderson, age 80, passed away Friday morning, March 9, 2012. He was born April 22, 1931 in Muskegon to Ervin and Hazel (Pierson) Anderson and had been a life resident of the area. Jim served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War and upon his discharge went to work for Consumer’s Power Company retiring after 31 years as a lineman. He was divorced from his first wife who provided him with four children. He then met Ruth Sander, who lived with him for over 25 happy years. She passed away in April of 2009, leaving a huge void in his life, but he still had his loyal and loving dog “Shania”, who went everywhere he went. Jim was a member of the VFW Post 446 and a former member of the Moose Lodge 491. He enjoyed all sports, fishing, and tending his yard and garden. Jim really enjoyed going to the horse track, where he made lots of friends. He also enjoyed going to the casinos. Jim is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Vern) Sample of N. Muskegon; sons, Doug Anderson of Muskegon, Kevin (Cathy) Anderson of Walkerville, Gary (Pam) Anderson of Fremont; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Anderson of Brunswick, GA; and his former wife and mother of his children, Anita Hoffman Anderson Livingston. He was also preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Mercy VNS & Hospice, Day Spring Assisted Living Center, and his cousin, Esther and Tom Rahrig for the exceptional care given to Jim during this most difficult time. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place later in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Muskegon Humane Society or Mercy VNS & Hospice will be appreciated.
