James M. Barnett MD's Obituary
James M. Barnett, MD, 79, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014. Born September 9, 1935 to Clifford and Kathryn (McKown) Barnett in Cedarburg, WI, he lived in Muskegon more than 50 years. He received a Bachelor Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, and a M.S., M.D., and Ophthalmology degrees from the University of Michigan. James served his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was a member of First Congregational Church, American Medical Assn., Michigan State and Muskegon County Medical Societies, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology; and served on the Board of Directors for Muskegon County Habitat for Humanity, Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana Counties, Muskegon County Museum, and Christian Business Men’s Committee. He retired as an Ophthalmologist at Shoreline Vision. Dr. Barnett also had authored articles for Ophthalmologic publications. On June 9, 1979 he married the former Mary “Martha” Miles, and she survives him, along with a daughter, Catherine “Cathy” Wilson of Chicago; two granddaughters, Rachael and Alex; and a sister, Ann (Bruce) Ostern currently of AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Steve, and his son, Stephen. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM for Dr. Barnett on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, phone 231-798-1100, with Rev. Tim VanderHaar officiating. MEMORIALS can be directed to Harbor Hospice.
