Mr. James "Jim" Beckman's Obituary
Mr. James Thomas Beckman, age 63, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Jim was born November 28, 1954 to Eugene and Gladys (Neumann) Beckman Sr. in Muskegon. He earned his degree as a maritime engineer from The Great Lakes Maritime Academy of North West Michigan College. On July 11, 1980 he married the former Pamela Meyers in Muskegon and she survives him. Jim was employed as a first engineer in the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes with Columbia Transport, U.S. Steel, and others for 22 years. Jim spent the next 10 years with Mercy Hospital in plant operations and then worked with SAF Holland prior to his retirement. Jim loved to fish, garden, and build his amazing ships in a bottle. He was an Eagle Scout and a Sea Scout who loved the water and boats. Jim was loved and will be missed by Pam, his wife of 37 years; his children, Curtis Beckman, Beth (Jacob) Maxlow, Barbara Carey and Daniel (Angie) Kittel; six grandchildren; one great- grandchild; his brothers, David (Angie) Beckman and Jack (Gerri) Beckman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A VISITATION celebrating Jim’s life will be held from 5-8 PM Monday, June 11, 2018 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210.
