James A. "Jim" Churchill's Obituary
James A. “Jim” Churchill, age 88, passed away at home surrounded by family, Friday, May 19, 2023. He was born January 18, 1935 in Windham, Maine to Clarence and Mary (Pratt) Churchill. Jim served his country in both the U.S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Army as a paratrooper for over 9 years. After working at the S.D. Warren Paper Mill in Maine and working in law enforcement and the fire department, Jim was transferred and moved his family to work at the Muskegon mill. He worked 42 years for the mill prior to his retirement in 1994. On October 14, 1999, he married Linda Wolffis in Muskegon, and she survives him. Jim was a member of the Vikings Linne’ Lodge 57, was an excellent wood worker, enjoyed fishing and tinkering with computers, and was an amateur HAM radio operator. The family remembers Jim as always willing to help others in need and having a great sense of humor, always telling stories and jokes. Jim will be missed by many. SURVIVORS include his wife, Linda; five children: Robin (Scott Pekel) Churchill of Muskegon, Jim (Theresa Rae) Churchill of Grant, Chris (Salli) Churchill of Twin Lake, Michael (Becky) Wolffis of Fruitport, and Tim (Hayley Bryant) Wolffis of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ralph (Mona) Churchill of New Hampshire and Donald Churchill of Westbrook, Maine; three sisters: Margaret (Gerald) Worden of Limington, Maine, Hazel (Wayne) Day of Cornish, Maine, and Gladys (Lesley) Moulton of Wytopitlock, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Bea Churchill in 1998 and by his granddaughter, Bethany Churchill in 1995. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held from 4-7 PM Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the VFW Don Rea Post #8846 (1061 Witham, North Muskegon, MI) with full Military Honors at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation or Folds of Honor.
