Mr. James William Gripton's Obituary
Mr. James William Gripton, age 78, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 7, 2015 at his home. Jim was born October 11, 1936 to Albert and Gladys (Clarkson) Gripton in Port Huron and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On May 31, 1963 he married the former Barbara Kay Church. Jim was employed as a sandblaster and painter for Pennington Brothers Painting and Michigan Bridge for 25 years. Following retirement he worked at the Meat Block. He was a member Lake Harbor United Methodist Church serving in many capacities throughout the years including as trustee. He was also a member of Viking Linnea Lodge #57 and Lakeside Veterans Club. Jim’s SURVIVORS include Barb, his wife of 51 years; his children, Jennifer Anne (Jeff) Gotaas and Jason Berry (Lori) Gripton. Lovingly referred to as “Pops”, he will be greatly missed by his granddaughters, Elizabeth, Cornelia, Julia, Victoria, Gabrielle and Jillian. Jim was preceded in death by his sons, Steven Joel in 1983 and Michael James in 1988; brother, Robert; and sisters, Bethel Hollis, Donna Chase, Margie Shutt and Sally Allard. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, 4861 S. Henry St., with Rev. Mary Ivanhov officiating and Full Military Rites under the auspices of the VFW Muskegon County Council. VISITATION will be 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231 798-1100, and one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM) at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Harbor United Methodist Church Preservation Fund.
