What a great guy Jim was! I was his suitemate in Pickell Hall at Ferris State back in 1975. Jims quick wit and sense of humor kept us in stitches. Always upbeat, a bit mischievous and a true caring friend. Knowing Jim was clearly one of the highlights of my college days. As is all too often the case, we lost touch over the years and the last I knew he was in Lansing working at the hospital. Fast forward 41 years - to January 2017 - at the funeral for my dear brother Phil. After the service I was approached by a man I didn't recognize and it turned out to be Jim! He explained that he had seen the obit and wanted to extend his sympathies and reconnect. He was still the funny, warm, caring person he had been back at Ferris. We only spoke briefly but I expressed to him how many great memories I had with him. Our hope was to get together during a return trip to Muskegon. Sadly that did not happen. Godspeed my friend.

This is from Margo and my son's,
We want to say thank you for all the lovely thoughts expressed here on line and to us personally at the visitation and on the day of his funeral. It helped me to understand that beside being my best friend and the love of my life, as well as a wonderful, loving father, he touched so many other lives in such a positive way. Unfortunately, unlike Jimmy Stewart in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" he cannot come back to us to continue carrying on with those things that gave him such joy. It is comforting to know that while he was here, he made such a difference. Thank you so much for all the love and prayers - it will be our strength and our salvation!

Diane and I deeply regret the passing of our favorite "cousin-in-,law". I fondly remember the hours and hours Jim and I spent discussing sports. He was one of the few people I've met who actually knew more about sports than me (sorry Rich, Jim knew more than either of us!). Margo, we also fondly remember you and Jim visiting us for some good "two-on two" time the day after our wedding. You were the only couple to delay your trip home to visit with us prior to our "honeymoon move" to San Antonio for me to start my Internship and Residency. We hope to be able to visit you and Rich and Mary some time this summer.

I am sorry for your loss, he will be missed greatly. Jim worked with both of my parents at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, before going to work for the State. My brother then went to work for the state and met Jim. My parents would pick up DeLuca's pizza's to bring to him occasionally when they headed north to there cottage.

He was friendly person who always had a good word for others. He will be missed. Sympathy and prayers for you Margo and for your family.

My fondest memory of my Uncle Jim is when my sister Shelly and I would spend the night at grandma's house on Comfort St., Lansing. Uncle Jim's bedroom was forbidden, but Shelly and I would play hide-n-seek because he had closets that went from his bedroom to the middle of the stairwell (if that makes sense) so when he came running up the stairs to get us, we would jump out of the closet onto the stairs and run to grandma to save us. This was many years ago, but still a fond memory. Uncle Jim, you will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Jim's sudden passing. As other DHHS staff have said, we spend so much time with our coworkers that it hits us hard when something happens. Jim was so steadfast and calm considering the type of work he had to do. I always admired him for it. So sad that he will not be able to reap the rewards of all his hard work. Hold on to the memories you have shared and they will bring you peace.

So sad to hear about the loss of such an awesome man. I worked with Jim at DHS for many years. My condolences to the family. No matter what was going on at work, he never let it get him down. He will be greatly missed.
