James Henry "Jim" Hasper's Obituary
James Henry “Jim” Hasper, age 82, passed into Life Eternal at his home on Spring Lake on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He was born December 7, 1941 on Pearl Harbor Day to Henry and Margaret (Deitrich) Hasper. Jim graduated from Muskegon High School in 1959 and was a proud Big Red. He worked over 30 years for Sealed Power, SPX, and Hylift prior to his retirement on July 6, 2000. On July 6, 2002, he married Ruth E. Helms in Fruitport, MI and spent a wonderful 22 years together. Jim and Ruth wintered 6 months a year in Fort Myers, FL. Their home church in Florida was the Southwest Baptist Church, and together they taught and led three different Bible Study groups over the years. While in Michigan, their home church was Harvest Bible Spring Lake Campus which they were a part of for 13 years. He and Ruth also did mission work in Panama and Guatemala and for 20 years volunteered at the Immokalee Soup Kitchen. Jim was a car enthusiast, enjoyed traveling and watching sports on TV. He was an avid fisherman, camper, boater, hunter, and mushroom hunter and loved involving all of his grandchildren in these activities. Together, Jim and Ruth had a wonderful retirement and enjoyed every minute of it. He will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ruth; five children: Deborah Pipe, Ronald (Mary) Hasper, Pamela (Edward) Terris, Margie (Doug) Potter, and Roger (Julie) Helms; grandchildren: Megan and Nathan Pipe, Chase (Hannah) Hasper, Ashley (Felipe) Mendes, Anne (Johann) DeJong, Lydia and Lexi Terris, Rachel (Ian) Fields, Melissa (Jeffrey) Hansen, Joshua (Annalise) Potter, Kyle (Megan) Potter, Nathan (Harmony Fox) Helms, and Samuel (Christine Gilmore) Helms; great-grandchildren: Barrett and Breslyn, Claire and Ellarie, Raphael, Kendall, Peyton, Greyson, Stella, Lennox, Esther, and Henrick; and sister-in-law, Terry Hasper. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Zachary Helms; brother, Douglas F. Hasper; and sister, Nancy Jean Johnson. SERVICES for Jim will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Harvest Bible Church Spring Lake Campus, 225 E. Exchange St., Spring Lake, MI 49456 with Pastor Craig Gurr officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456 (616) 842-6100 and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Jim will be laid to rest in Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MI.
