James Humphrey's Obituary
James Humphrey, age 78, of Spring Lake passed away peacefully Thursday, October 6, 2022, at home. He was born May 15, 1944, in Mount Pleasant, MI to John Rogers Humphrey and Marion (Olson) Humphrey. On August 19, 1967, he married the love of his life Nancy Jo Allen at The United Methodist Church in Clare, MI. Jim graduated from Clare High School in 1962; continuing his educational journey he obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University.
Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, Spring Lake Rotary, Sons of the American Legion, and Gideons. Jim was a controller for several years and went on to work for Farm Bureau Insurance. He achieved 22 years of service with Farm Bureau and retired in 2015. He loved his cottage up north and spending the summers up there with family and friends. He was an avid golfer and was very honored to golf at some amazing golf courses around the world. He enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling and a good glass of wine.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; two sons, Michael Humphrey of Rockford and Brian (Amy) Humphrey of Spring Lake; granddaughter(s), Grace, Kristina (AL) and Hillary; siblings: Mary (Rich) Forrest, Phyllis (Bob) Frase, Barb (Tom) Gibbings, John Keig, Diana Lynn Bradley, Debbie (Jim) Loman, Elyce Ludwick; brother and sisters-in-law: James (Coleen) Allen, Darlene Ameter, Barbara (Craig) Rozanek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John (Maxine) Humphrey; mother, Marion Olson; sisters, Evelyn Warner, Kathy (Jim) Holderman; brother-in-law, Russ Ameter.
Funeral Service will be at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2022. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. A private Interment will take place for immediate family at Arthur Township Cemetery on Saturday October 15, 2022. Memorial contributions in memory of James may be given to West Michigan Hospice (318 E Main St, suite F, Lowell, MI 49331) or United Methodist Church of the Dunes (717 Sheldon Rd, Grand Haven, MI 49417).
