James "Jim" H. Lawie's Obituary
Mr. James H. “Jim” Lawie, age 83, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020. He was born on December 19, 1936 in Muskegon to Louis and Muriel (Moyer) Lawie, and was a lifelong resident of the area. Jim was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a real estate agent for Crystal Anderson for 25 years, including being awarded the #1 realtor in Muskegon a number of times. Jim loved doing yardwork and having a manicured lawn, and also loved traveling with his wife Anne, even spending a year in Alaska. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and coordinated family camping trips where he brought everything but the kitchen sink for these activities. Jim served his community on the Reeths-Puffer School Board for a number of years, and was a founding and active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He also owned the Windjammer Tavern in downtown Muskegon during the late 1970’s. On September 14, 1957, he married the former Anne L. Hodges, and she preceded Jim in death on April 27, 2018. SURVIVORS include five children, James “Jim” Lawie, Michael (Shelley) Lawie, Kathy (Pat Somerville) Carpenter, Jackie (Kirk) Somerville, and Joni (Troy) Hall all of Muskegon; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and brother, Rev. Fr. Richard Lawie of Grand Rapids. Jim was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Provost and Norma Weber; and brother, Lawrence Lawie.
