James G. "Jim" Johnson's Obituary
James “Jim” G. Johnson, age 92, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice. He was born February 20, 1927 in Muskegon to Clarence and Irene (Rollenhagen) Johnson and was a life resident. Jim entered the U.S. Merchant Marine Corp and served during WWII. He later re-entered the Marines and served during the Korean War. Jim was a proud U.S. Army Veteran as well. On November 8, 1952, he married the former Beverly Nelson in Muskegon and she preceded him in death in July 1993. Jim worked 45 years as an assembly worker for Dresser Industries and retired in 1990. He was a life-long member of the Masons in the 32nd Degree and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed living and making friendships at Sanctuary of the Oaks. Survivors include 3 children, James G. (Carla) Johnson of Englewood, FL, Jayne (Charles) Cave of Grand Haven, Susan (Chris Sonderhouse) Johnson of North Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, Julie (Rich) Steketee, Jaime (Mike)Kasher, Donald Cable, Jeff (Thomas Serio) Cave, Courtney Cave; 5 great-grandchildren, Emilia, Carina and Ava Steketee, Nolan and Olivia Kasher. Besides his wife, Beverly, he was also preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Jean Sluyter. Visitation will be held 2:00 PM Saturday followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 PM Saturday, March 9, 2019 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Military Honors offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans and the Muskegon Marine Corps League Detachment 703.
