Let me first express my sincere condolences to Connie, Sarah, Annie, Jamie and the rest of Flea’s family for your loss. You have lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great human being. I have lost several close friends over the past decade, and while they all hurt, this one really hits home. I have known Flea since junior high...over 60 years. We partied together in high school and college. And when he moved to Muskegon we enjoyed several crazy pool parties at his home. I have to admit that he did get a little nervous one year as we played “Catch the Watermelon”, where the melon was tossed from the side of the pool to one of us knuckle heads jumping off the diving board. We spent countless weekends over the years gathering together at Jumbo and Shelley’s home on the bay…cooking, drinking, dancing to Motown classics, and ending the evening with a little red wine and listening to the Moody Blues which always brought tears to Flea’s eyes. And yes, we sailed together. I remember when Jumbo and I owned L’Attitude. We always wanted to get the boat north during the summer and we would put together a crew that usually consisted of Flea, Buffalo, Jumbo and me. We would leave the dock in Bay City around 6 p.m. on a Friday evening and sail through the night arriving in Presque Isle Harbor about 24 hours later. Of course we told our wives that we were doing them a huge favor by not making them endure that tough sail north. Buff passed a few years ago…and now Flea. I know I speak for Jumbo when I say that we would give most anything to have to endure just one more of those sails. Well rest in peace my old friend. Keep the cooler packed and an eye on the horizon. Because it won’t be long until we come to join you…and we can pick up right where we left off. I love you, Flea.
