Mr. James McCormick's Obituary
Mr. James Edward McCormick, 79 left this wonderful world on Thursday morning, July 27, 2017 in Muskegon. He was born Saturday, October 09th, 1937 to John and Suda (Dunlap) McCormick in Woodville, West Virginia. Jim came to Michigan over five decades to beautify Michigan under the Lady Bird Highway Beatification Act of 1965. This is when he came to Muskegon with the company that he worked for in Detroit. Here in Muskegon is where he found the love of his life, Mary Fairfield. After a very brief courtship he and Mary married on December 3rd, 1966. He called Muskegon his home for many years before moving from Lakeside to the country life of White Cloud, MI where he spent his retirement life of the last 21 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, everything that Michigan had to offer unlike that of the hills of West Virginia. With Mary as his guide he discovered many spectacular, scenic views of the hills that are found in Michigan. The lake unlike any lake in his home state he found peace while fishing on Muskegon Lake in which was his backyard for all the years in Muskegon. If you couldn’t find Jim along the shore or in his boat and still couldn’t locate Jim you could surely find him in his little haven in his workshop. His love of wood can still be found in many homes. He certainly enjoyed the many pieces that he created for Mary and especially for his grandchildren. He discovered golfing in his later years. Jim enjoyed and even shared the fairway with Mary at his side. Jim will be significantly missed by his loving wife, Mary (Fairfield) of 50 ½ years marriage. Alongside of Mary, Jim will be deeply missed by his two children Margaret (Pat) Eitniear and John (Lisa) McCormick. Jim aka “Papa” will be sadly missed by his grandchildren; Louise (Casey Marine) McCollum, Patrick (Bonnie) McCollum, James (Nicole Jakus) McCollum, Mackenzie Ruppel, Jorey McCormick, Joshua McCormick, Bianca McCormick, Kay McCormick. Papa will be exceedingly missed by his three-lovely great – granddaughters; Regina McCollum, Emily McCollum, Ophelia McCormick, and Marissa Ramsey. Jim is also survived by his sister Anna Ruth McCormick of Barberville, West Virginia. Brother-in-law Ivan “Jerry” (Collen) Fairfield, Sister-in-law Rita Shulmier, and Sister-in-law Fran Fairfield. In addition, his dearest friends whom he called his own Sissy and Brother – Robert and Harriet MayCroft. Furthermore, many nieces and nephews near and far. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister, mother/father-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law. Per Jim’s wishes he requested that he is to be buried without a funeral. His burial will be at 11 am Saturday; July 29th, 2017 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens located at 2188 Remembrance Drive, Muskegon, MI 49442. Please feel free to share your compassion with the family at that time. In lieu of flowers Jim’s wishes were for any contributions to his favorite and dear to his heart organizations - The American Diabetes Association or the American Association in hopes to find a cure for diabetes and to find hope in those that suffer from any heart diseases. A gathering to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Sunday; August 6th at their house. You may contact Margie at (231) 750-6377. This was his wish for his Family and Friends to gather to enjoy food and stories. Remember, always. Funerals are for the living and not the dead as he would say as many of you know him well
