James R. "Jim" Michels Sr.'s Obituary
James R. “Jim” Michels Sr., age 72, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 18, 2024. He was born September 16, 1951, in Muskegon to James Edward and Arlene Violet (Bitson) Michels. Jim graduated from Ravenna High School in 1970 and worked 25 years as a paint technician for Leigh Products. On October 17, 1970, he married the love of his life, Susan J. “Sue” Ketchum in Ravenna. Jim was a car enthusiast and enjoyed restoring, painting, and collecting old cars. He was a people person and loved teaching others how to do things. He was also a hobby farmer and a regular auction attendee and purchaser. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue of Ravenna; son, James Raymond “JR” (Heather Burgess) Michels Jr. of Grant; daughter, Stacey (Joe) Mischler of Ravenna; four grandchildren: Miranda (Codey), Rachael (Raul), Lily, and Jamie; three great-grandchildren: Alayna, Matteo, and Aria; brother, Larry Michels of Ravenna; sister, Mickey Maycroft of Coopersville; mother-in-law, Jean Swindell of Hart; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Russell LeRoy Ketchum; and siblings: Bob, Don, Ruth, and Lynn. A CELEBRATION OF JIM’S LIFE will be held from 1-5 PM Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Ravenna American Legion Sherman Moore Post #297 (3590 Conklin St., Ravenna, MI 49451) .
