James Floyd Moose's Obituary
James Floyd Moose, age 82, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan. Jim was born to Howard and Anita Moose in Chicago, Illinois, on April 18, 1943, and was raised in Allegan, Michigan. Jim graduated from Allegan High School and moved to Muskegon, Michigan in his early adulthood, where he resided the rest of his life. Jim was a co-creator of the West Michigan Buyers’ Guide and worked on the publication for over 50 years. Additionally, Jim served in the National Guard for 12 years. In 1979, Jim married his wife, Carleen in Muskegon, Michigan. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage together.
Jim’s biggest passion in life was baseball. Jim spent many years coaching his teams: The Buyers’ Guide Barons, The Buyers’ Guide Knights, and The Buyers’ Guide Cavaliers, who played at Marsh Field. Jim also coached college baseball at Muskegon Community College, high school baseball at Muskegon High School, and little league baseball. Jim and Carleen enjoyed frequent trips to Florida with teams to coach and watch baseball.
When not on the field or in the dugout, Jim may have been found working on the haunted house he and Carleen built in their driveway every Halloween for 19 years. Jim found great joy in decorating elaborately for Halloween and celebrating with his family and community. Jim also enjoyed being out on the trails cross country skiing.
Jim will be missed dearly by his wife Carleen Moose; children, Jason Moose, Shawn Bates, James (Dana) Miksell II, Joel (Leslie) Moose, Eric (Jennifer) Moose, and Matthew (Kristen) Moose; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ron) Harris, Justin Miksell, Anthony (Anna) Miksell, Sarah Miksell, Jami Miksell, Tucker Moose, Emmit Moose, Zoey Moose, Kora Moose, Margaret Moose, and James Moose; great-grandchildren, Annastasia Martinez, Joshua Martinez, and Charlie Mae Miksell. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John Moose and George Moose.
A visitation will be held on Saturday November 8, 2025 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice in memory of Jim.
