Mr. James Monroe Peel (Jim) was born on March 1st 1947 in the state of Missouri. He served his country in the Army from May 1964 to May 1967. During his service in Vietnam he earned the following awards; Expert; Rifle, Sharpshooter; Carbine, Basic Missileman badge, and National Defense Service Metal. He passed peacefully in Muskegon Michigan, at Sanctuary at McAuley on February 5th 2019. James lived at Sanctuary at McAuley for the last five years and was adopted by many staff members as family. Some of his interests were; playing chess, wood working, watching movies, reading, listening to music, and a love of the outdoors and fishing. He did not do much woodworking while living at McAuley, but he had sandpaper and small pieces of wood in his dresser drawer. He and his friend Ken would work together in the shop at Ken’s house making small items before he moved into the nursing home.
Jim was a nice guy, had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was famous at the nursing home for being a prankster, everyone has a story that involves Jim. He was a very special person to a few of the workers and we all are saddened at his passing and have a piece of us missing.
A Memorial will be held at Jericho Road Church at the corner of Milliron and Broadway in Muskegon, 2808 S Mill Iron Rd, Muskegon, MI 49444, on Saturday March 2nd at 3pm.
