I've known Jim for many years while working at the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. I worked with him in several paternity cases and oh what a hoot he was; he gave me suggestions to give to my clients regarding "how babies are made and how to avoid this situation". I also babysat Rookie and Lady for him while he was away visiting family. This was quite a task because they received a lot of special attention like yogurt and toast at a specific time of day. I even had to sleep in his bed because that's what they were used to. Some of us used to joke about who all slept in his bed. He always hosted two parties a year and welcomed us with open arms into his cozy home. Many of us will always have special memories of those good times together. He was taken way too soon and will be dearly missed! Love, Toni & Will
Really shocked and sad to hear Jim is no longer with us. I have had the honor and pleasure to have known him over more than 40 years. We were on occasion on the opposite sides of litigation. He was always professional, prepared, witty and fair and a tough opponent. My experience was no different than any of my brothers and sisters of the bar. I saw less of him over the last years but whenever we would bump into each other I felt like I had the good fortune to relive past good times. Great smile, great attitude, fun guy! His clients were always well served by his counsel, his friends better for his company and this world less by his passing. My sympathy to Jim's family.
RIP Jim.

Jim was the best example of a GREAT attorney! But, more importantly, he was a GREAT person and friend! We were privileged to work with him and learn from him. Saying we will miss him is an understatement. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Jim was one of the most kind and generous men I knew. Very intelligent, articulate, and just a joy to exchange stories with over a scotch or beer. But I will miss his dry, blunt sense of humor the most. After all it was he who first introduced me to the phrase 'Do you need a shovel' after catching me digging in my nose in public at a tender age. Needless to say, I never did that again...
Jim was a class act, a loyal Hawkeye, and great attorney. He will be missed. Prayers for the family, and may Jim RIP.
It wasn't all work. Jim was the court appointed attorney at the 58th District Court in Hudsonville. Jim often had us all laughing. He was a great attorney without all the stuffiness and really a joy to work with. He always had a smile on his face and treated all of us at the court with kindness. I will always think of him smiling with that twinkle in his eye. He will be missed.
