James "Jim" Schmidt's Obituary
Mr. James William. Schmidt, age 82, of Spring Lake passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at home. He was born August 8, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio to James J. and Mildred (Barnes) Schmidt. On June 26, 1960 he married Nancy Serpan in Cleveland.
Jim was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and surfing on the computer. Jim had a passion for music and listening to the West Michigan Concert WINDS and the Boardwalk Brass of Grand Haven. Jim and Nancy and their family lived in many different places over the years, starting in Cleveland, then to, Tonawanda, NY, Seymour, IN, Denton, TX and then to Spring Lake. His greatest love was his family and especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy; two daughters, Lisa (Robert) Schroeder of Rockford, and Linda (Vince) Browand of Grand Haven; three grandchildren: Jacob, Jana, and Joshua Schroeder. He is also survived by one brother, Thomas (Susan) Schmidt; brother-in-law, Charles Serpan,Jr. and sister-in-law, Martha Vavra.
