Even though I was only able to see him 2 to 3 times a year, I still loved him deeply. I enjoyed seeing him and Aunt Kay on the holidays. I hope things get better for Kay, Ken, Kristi, Kaitlyn, Karson, McKenzie and everyone else.

Jim lived with joy. We appreciated the hugs we'd get in Meijer whenever we saw him. His smile was contagious, and he was a great example of a life well lived. I know he'll be missed by all his family. We're sorry we couldn't be at the service today. Our love and prayers are with you, Kay and Kristi!
Jim was a qualified brakeman when I joined the railroad almost 20 years ago. He was the main one who trained me to become a brakeman as well. I went on to conductor and engineer the following year, but Jim was happy to keep working as a brakeman. Later on when the job started getting harder for him, and with a lot of arm twisting from all of us, we talked him into becoming a conductor, he found his true calling. The passengers (especially the girls) all loved Jim. He had his perfect job. He also qualified for yard engineer and loved running the engines. The last time I saw Jim, he had retired but came over to see the new engine Consumers Power had donated to us. I started it up and asked if he'd like to run it in the yard. I never saw a bigger smile on his face than he had that day. We all miss him. Bless you, Jim.

Jim had a smile and energy that was infectious. You could not help but to be in a good mood whenever he was around. Working with Jim on the Coopersville and Marne Railway was a true pleasure and privilege. Watching him interact with passengers of all ages, you could see everyone’s face light up when he was near. He touched the lives of thousands over his many years of dedicated service. Everyone was richer for meeting him.
Jim felt like the grandfather I never had. Sharing breakfast before and lunch between runs allowed me to learn more about Jim and the world at large.
He will be missed, but will live on in the hearts and memories of all those who were lucky enough to have known him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Kay, and all your family.
