James D. "Donny" Smith's Obituary
Mr. James D. “Donny” Smith, age 81, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at his home in Muskegon. He was born on October 26, 1935 to Christopher and Lois (Thompson) Smith and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Donny married Mary Elizabeth Nichols on August 5, 1961 and she preceded him in death in 2015. He was a longtime member of Muskegon First Free Methodist Church and was a dedicated student of the Bible. He was an avid bowler and bicyclist and also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and fall color tours, but foremost was always his friends and family. James proudly served his country by active duty in the U.S.M.C. He later served in the Army reserve and retired from the Navy reserve. SURVIVORS include his children; Laura (Jay) Justice and James C. Smith; grandchildren, Nathin (Amber), Caleb and Cameron; 2 brothers, Leroy and Charles Smith; sister, Betty Sikkenga; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gene and his sister, Arlene. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Muskegon First Free Methodist Church, 1400 E. Hile Rd. with Pastor Carlos Ramos officiating. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Muskegon First Free Methodist Church.
