James H. "Jim" Starr's Obituary
James Harvey “Jim” Starr, age 75, passed away Thursday morning, February 16, 2023 at his home. He was born June 18, 1947 in Muskegon to Elmer B. and Rose M. (Czarney) Starr and lived his entire life in the area. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. He received an associate’s degree from Muskegon Business College. On June 29, 1984, he married Stacia M. Nichols in Muskegon and she survives him. Jim worked for Bennett Pump Co. and retired in 2013 as a Sr. Customer Service Rep after 31 years. Jim was a longtime member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He was also very active with the Dan M. Kennedy Knights of Columbus Council #706 where he had served as Past Grand Knight. Jim was also a member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union. He enjoyed golfing – especially on the Knights of Columbus Golf League. His family was his number one priority and he was very proud of all of them. He especially enjoyed hanging out with his buddies in the garage and working around the house. Survivors include his loving wife, Stacia Starr; 2 daughters, Jennifer (Greg) Bernath, JoAnn (John) Jacobs; 2 step-children, Timothy (Kimberly) DeMott, Tammi DeMott; 5 grandchildren, Emily (Cody) Rogers, Autumn DeMott, Abigail Nesbitt, Alexis Nesbitt, Andrew Jacobs; 1 great-grandson, Liam Rogers; 1 brother, John (Bonnie) Starr; 2 sisters, Judy (Fred) Meyers, Jolene (Harold) Nelson; 1 brother-in-law, Dale (Alicia) Nichols; 1 sister-in-law, Suellen Bird; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Scott and Steven Starr; and his parents, Elmer and Rose Starr. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (451 S. Getty St., Muskegon, MI 49442) with the Rev. Fr. Kyle Kilpatrick presiding. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Wednesday evening. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday at the Church. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Spectrum Hospice or Knights of Columbus Council #706.
