James Gordon Sweeney Sr.'s Obituary
James Gordon Sweeney Sr., age 73, of Rothbury, Michigan passed away on September 20, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan. Jim was born to Everett and Anna Sweeney on August 2, 1952, in Muskegon, Michigan. Jim graduated from Montague High School in 1970. Jim owned and operated his own trucking company, Rothbury Transit, for over 20 years, which he retired from.
Jim will be remembered by those who love him as a loving person who cared deeply for his close family and liked to have fun. He enjoyed the time he spent having coffee with friends and attending car shows with his 1970 Chevy Truck.
Jim is survived by his children, Amanda (Christopher) Klotz, James (Amy) Sweeney Jr., and was a father figure to Trevor Kari; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Ann Spira and Marilyn (Bruce) Horrell; brother-in-law, Bob Squires; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion, Diesel the German Shepard. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eva Squires.
Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in Jim’s honor may be made to the Crystal Valley Care Fund.
