James Gilbert "Buck" Young's Obituary
Mr. James Gilbert “Buck” Young, age 94, of Spring Lake, Michigan passed away peacefully into his heavenly home on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Buck was born on September 7, 1930 in East Jordan, Michigan to James N. and Anna E. (Shepard) Young. In 1950 he married the former Joan M. Fazakerley of Muskegon, Michigan and she preceded him in death in 1975. Buck was employed at Wittkopp Tool and Die until 1975 and Sergeants Specialties until his retirement in 1995. He was an avid softball and baseball player. In his younger days he played in the city leagues in Muskegon. Later in life he played for 22 years in the senior leagues in Florida where he and Jackie formed many lasting friendships. Buck also enjoyed spending time with his friends biking and kayaking. Buck was an active member of Unity Reformed Church of Muskegon, Michigan where he served on consistory. In later years, he became an active member of First Baptist Church of Spring Lake, Michigan. On January 20, 1978, Buck married Jacqueline Clausen and together they enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Jackie survives him along with three daughters, Rochelle (Ward) VanDam, Debra (Dale) Dykema, and Laurie (Jerry) Boyer; two stepdaughters, LaVonne (Jim) Almond and Sheryl (Steve) Carlisle; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sharon Young and Joyce Young; and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, Buck was preceded in death by his son, James “Jimmy” Young in 2023 and five siblings and their spouses, Lois (Clarence) Allen, Hugh Young, Bill (Freda) Young, Mary (Earl) Pennington, and Dale Young. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 20, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to his service. A private burial will take place in the spring at Spring Lake Cemetery.
