James Colby Jacobs' Obituary
Mr. James “Jim” Colby Jacobs, age 92, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospital. He was born November 21, 1916 in New Boston, OH, to Colby and Gertrude (Lawson) Jacobs and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Jim worked a few years at CWC Foundry, later worked 21 years at Lakey Foundry and retired as a pattern maker from Ravenna Pattern in 1986 after 15 years of service. He married the former Nellie M. Kidner on October 12, 1951, and she preceded him in death on June 27, 1992. He had previously been married to Mildred M. Quickel. Jim was an active member of Sheridan Drive Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee. He also volunteered for 12 years at International Aide where he specialized in repairing wheelchairs. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting and his “claim to fame” was his fried chicken and home-made applesauce. His children and grandchildren were the highlight of his life. SURVIVORS include 1 daughter, Judy Mae (Leo) Harman of Muskegon; 3 step-daughters, Juanita Moseler, Geraldine (Harry) Stapel, Donna (Don) Carpenter all of Muskegon; 16 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elizabeth Woodruff of Ohio; 3 half-sisters, Lora (Dave) Keys, Annabelle Myers, Linda (Harold) Kunkle all of Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by 1 son, James Kenneth Jacobs; 1 step-daughter, Laverna DeHaven; 1 grandson, Alan Davis; 2 great-grandsons, Jordan James and Joshua Nathan Leffring; his parents; 1 sister, Celia Joseph; and 1 brother, Charles Jacobs. THE FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Sheridan Drive Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Rumley officiating. VISITATION with Jim’s family will be 5-8 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
