James L. Guthrie's Obituary
Mr. James L. Guthrie, age 74, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007, at the Poppen Hospice House in Fruitport, following a brief illness. Jim was born in Muskegon on March 12, 1933 to Harold and Nellie (Niver) Guthrie. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School, attended Muskegon Business College, Muskegon Community College and graduated Cum Laude from Western Michigan University. Jim was employed at Sealed Power Corp. for 36 years, retiring in 1988 as customer service manager. Jim was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Viking Linne Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Nomads Flying Club in Detroit. He was also an avid MSU football fan, having season tickets for 42 yrs. On April 2, 1977, he married the former Maureen Corey-Carlson. He is survived by his wife, Maureen of Norton Shores; son, Daniel (Lori) Carlson of Norton Shores; daughter, Patti (Dave) Meier of N. Muskegon; 4 grandsons, Jared, Josh, Jacob and Jonathon Meier; sister-in-law, Joanne Hall; nieces, Sharon and Janice Hall; and several cousins. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, 231-798-1100. Fr. Robert A. Shackles will be officiating. Friends may meet with the family beginning 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials: Harbor Hospice or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
