James N. Powell's Obituary
Mr. James N. Powell, age 89, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 in Muskegon. He was born on January 11, 1917 in South Bend, IN to Newton and Pearl (Saupp) Powell, and had resided in the Muskegon area since 1981. Mr. Powell was the President and Co-Founder of Lithotone, Inc. in Elkhart, IN. He was a member of the American Institute of Graphic Art in New York, the Society of Typographic Arts in Chicago, and Calvary Bible Church and Church of the Open Door. Jim was an honorable, faithful, courteous man who served God and others. On December 10, 1938 he married the former Ethel Dorothy Robinson, who died August 11,1980. On December 14, 1980, he married the former Helen Sterenberg Peterman, and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2006. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Ruth Anne (David) Murphy of Marysville, TN, James N. (Nora) Powell, Jr. of Kalamazoo, MI, Richard E. (Wren) Powell of Thousand Oaks, CA; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 4 step-children, David (Melinda) Peterman of Muskegon, Caroljean “Jeanie” (Rev. Daniel) Herlein of Elk Rapids, MI, Charlotte (Daniel) McShannock of Midland, MI, and Jerry (MaryLou) Peterman of Muskegon; 10 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 3 PM Sunday at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Rev. Daniel Herlein officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 2-3 PM. BURIAL: St. Joseph Valley Cemetery in Elkhart, IN. MEMORIALS: Teen Challenge or Muskegon Rescue Mission.
