James V. Grimard Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. James ‘Jim’ V. Grimard, age 87, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012. He was born on March 23, 1924 to Leopold ‘Louie’ and Amy (Dorrington) Grimard in Muskegon. James was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Prior to his retirement in 1985 he had worked for Sealed Power as a finish grinder for 43 years. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Pensacola throughout the Pacific. Jim was also a member of the VFW Post 8846 (Don Rea) in North Muskegon. Among his joys in life were golfing, camping and electronic projects. In the “Ham” radio world he was known by ‘WD8AGX.’ As a volunteer to his community he worked on the restoration project of the WWII submarine USS Silversides. Throughout his young life he was very busy building a home for his family and was a devoted family man, blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On August 30, 1947, he married his loving wife, Laura May Seaney, his bride for 64 years and she survives him along with 8 children, James Jr. (Kathy), Mary (Joseph) Brunais, Diane (Gary) Wilson, Thomas (Sheila), Joseph (Juanita), Sharon (Joseph) Calkins, Richard (Sharon) and Daniel; 20 Grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ann Foster, David Grimard Sr., Rose Warren and Jeanie Vaughn. He was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Muriel Mary, Phillip, Virginia, Wilson, Wilbur and Benjamin. FUNERAL SERVICE and Military Rites will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at The Sytsema Chapel 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Brown presiding. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8 PM Monday, January 9, 2012. In lieu of flowers, please consider St. Thomas Catholic Church or Mercy VNS Hospice would be appreciated. BURIAL will take place at St. James Cemetery in Montague.
