Mr. Jan G. VanderSluis' Obituary
Jan G. (John) VanderSluis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, he survived forced labor in Germany during the Nazi occupation of Holland during WWII. He came to the U.S. with his young family in 1957 and lived many years in New Jersey before moving to Michigan and later, Florida. Though admired for his wit, humor, musical ability and facility with languages, the basis for the foundation of his life is underlined in his Bible: Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1) Thus, though death is dreadful, we do not despair but have hope in God’s promises. SURVIVORS include his wife of 65 years, Marcia (Maatje Vroegindewij); daughters, Paula (Richard) Doctor, Jackie (Barry) Larson; son, Lane (Judith) VanderSluis; grandchildren, Saskia (Dean) Kendziera, Molly (Matt) Henry, Joshua Larson, Analese (Steve) Forster, Erin (Jesse) Murray; 10 great grandchildren; and many relatives in the Netherlands. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Rev. Jerry Collins officiating. (A Memorial Service is also scheduled for a later date at Tampa’s University Village.) Visitation will be 1/2 hour prior to the service (10:30-11AM). Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Muskegon Rescue Mission or Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa.
