Janet Mary Gustin's Obituary
Janet Mary Gustin, age 82, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Muskegon, Janet was born May 18, 1943 to Aaron Calvin and Marian Eleanor Gertrude (Nevins) Harrell. In 1997, she married Carlton “Gus” Gustin and he passed away on September 14, 2021.
Jan was self-employed as a commercial and residential painter for over 30 years. She also generously offered her painting skills to family and friends until a bad back forced her to climb down from the ladder. As a silver-lining, that allowed her more time to tend to her beautiful flowers in the yard.
She is survived by her son Geoffrey Burkhardt; beloved grandson, Tony Burkhardt; step-children, Amy (Larry Earle) Gustin, Jeffrey (Paula) Gustin, and Christopher Gustin; as well as her brother and sister-in-law, David and Vicki Gustin.
Many kudos to Dave & Vicki, Mike & Carol, Carla & Stu, Gary, and Tina & Larry for keeping the party going after Gus’ died. We'll have another gathering at Jan’s house on Thursday, July 31st at 3:00 PM.
