Janet E. Meyers' Obituary
Janet Elise Meyers, 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2016. Jan was born in Muskegon on April 24, 1943, the eldest daughter of the late Elinor and Erling Meyers. She attended Muskegon schools, played flute in the Muskegon High School Marching and Concert bands, and graduated in 1961. Jan earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Michigan State University and her master’s degree in Special Education at Eastern Michigan University. Her teaching positions were in Los Angeles, CA, Detroit, MI, and the Maxi School for Boys in Brighton, MI. Active in her church, Jan was also an avid reader who enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, and creating her own patterns. She was a fan of Michigan State and the University of Michigan basketball teams. Her most memorable trip was in 1993 when she attended the NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament in New Orleans. Jan was predeceased by her parents, her nephew, Jeffrey Breu, and her stepfather, Al Christianson. She is survived by sisters Mary Breu (Jerry) of Anderson, SC, and Linnea Fraser (Mark) of Laconia, NH; niece Heather LeCroy (Tony) of Anderson, SC, nephew Eric Fraser (Katie) and great-niece Leah, niece Colleen Fraser, all of Washington, DC; stepsisters Carol Lamonaco and Lynnne Hansen of Grand Rapids and stepbrother David Hansen (Letty) of Montgomery, AL. A memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1132 W. Southern Avenue, Muskegon, on Saturday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
