Janet Mae Stern's Obituary
Janet Mae Stern, age 90, went to be in the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in Spring Lake. Janet was born October 26, 1932, to Martin and Gertrude Boersma in Wyoming Park, MI where she graduated high school in 1952.
Jan was first of all a loving and very busy mother of four wonderful sons, but still had time to become an accomplished organist, having served several churches, a wonderful pianist, a gallery quality artist and a masterful gardener. She also held several full-time jobs in business and self-employment sales. She was a devoted active member of First Reformed Church and was ordained to administer communion to church member shut-ins. With her husband John, she enjoyed many parts of God’s creation by cruise ship, rail, air, motorhomes and boats. Even in her 70’ and 80’s, she was an avid adventurer, enjoying such experiences as hiking the dunes, roller coasters and parasailing with her husband. She loved life. Most of all, she loved her Lord Jesus and her very large growing family. A recent stroke took away Jan’s ability to walk, use her left arm or see clearly. She is now playing the finest organ in the universe and dancing along the streets of gold.
Jan will be profoundly missed by her loving husband of 29 years, John; sons: Steven (Marj), Daniel (Avis), Joel (Colleen), and Jonathan (Judi); sister, Eleanor; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at First Reformed Church with Rev. John Kenny officiating. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Monday, May 15, 2023, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Janet may be given to First Reformed Church.
