Janet Lee VanderLaan's Obituary
Janet Lee VanderLaan, age 83, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Thursday, December 26, 2024. She was born December 23, 1941, in Sparta, MI to Basil and Jessie (Starn) Patterson.
Janet spent many years working in the banking industry, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed boating, camping, snowmobiling, going to the casino and spending time with her family. After retiring she and Jim spent winters in Florida. She was very proud of her home in Ravenna and in Florida. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles, Moose, and Elks.
SURVIVORS include her husband, Jim of 63 years; two sons: Kenneth (Amy) VanderLaan of West Olive and Keith (MaryJo) VanderLaan of Conklin; two daughters: Karen (Tony) Tyers of Kent City and Kathy Helsen (Chris) of Ravenna; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, MaryAnn (Mike) Sierz; brother-in-law, Gary Darcy; nephew, Ron (Taylor) Patterson; and several other nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Patterson.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Ayers presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
