Janice Mary "Jan" Weessies' Obituary
Janice Mary “Jan” Weessies, age 81, died on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Northcrest Assisted Living Center. She was born June 20, 1942 in Muskegon, MI and was the daughter of Sidney and Virginia R. (Derouin) Harris who have preceded her in death. She graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1960. She went on to become a Registered Nurse having graduated from Borgess School of Nursing in Kalamazoo in 1964. On December 26, 1964, she married Edward J. Weessies in Kalamazoo, MI. After graduation, Mrs. Weessies worked at Borgess Hospital and the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. She returned to Muskegon in 1967 and moved to Laketon Township in 1972. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Doctors Harris and Grassman and Doctor Nicholas Ellis in Muskegon, MI. She returned to Mercy Hospital retiring after 35 years as a nursing supervisor. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She served as a volunteer, doing inoculations, with the Muskegon County Citizens’ Corps during the H1N1 pandemic. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Ron Crowell) Wiseman, her son Michael Weessies both of Laketon Township, grandchildren, Nicholas Cooper, Arianna Wiseman, Hannah, Connor and Emily Weessies, 3 brothers, Robert (Dee) Harris, Norman (Susan) Harris, and David (Christine) Harris, cousin, Michael (Diane) Harris, and several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Edward H. Weessies and mother-in-law, Lena Weessies and sister-in-law, Lea Harris. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1110 Dykstra Road, North Muskegon, MI 49444, with the Rev. Fr. Godfrey Onyekwere presiding. Visitation will take place 5-8 PM Friday, July 21, 2023 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at church. Interment will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery.
