So sad to hear of Jan's passing. I met her at the VFW in Grand Haven for the first time when I joined the post. I wasn't even old enough to drink but I was old enough to be a veteran of the Beirut Peacekeeping Force in 1983. Janice was so solid in being an advisor to me in dealing with my mother's death, as she had recently dealt with her husbands passing. We spent many an evening chatting about politics and the future of Grand Haven. Janice often loaned me books on investing. She definitely was NOT one of those widows who became aimless after a spouses passing. She continued to manage her finances and home. Often sharing tips with me. During COVID she was interesting to still be sharp as a tack regarding living life and politics. Janice was tolerant of those who often had no clue about life, and just smiled and nodded her head. Maybe once in a while rolling her eyes in amazement. I hope now that Janice will be able to hang out again with her old pal Hazel Snyder in heaven. I thank God I had so many years to tap Janice's wisdom and conversation. - Sean McCarthy
