Janis E. Carvey's Obituary
Janis E. Carvey, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by her daughters. She was born on January 11, 1947, to Edmund and Betty (Galajda) Emlaw in Muskegon, Michigan, where she spent most of her life. Janis graduated from Catholic Central High School. On August 31, 1973, she married Larry Carvey. Together they shared 45 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories until Larry’s passing on October 19, 2018. She worked as a clerk for Muskegon Public School District's Special Education department for approximately 20 years. While she enjoyed bowling, it was the friendship and memorable trips that made the bowling team so special to her. She loved connecting with others and in recent years, found great joy attending day group at DayBreak. An avid reader and talented knitter, Janis also had a remarkable green thumb and took great pride in tending to her gardens. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals and baking treats for family and friends, always finding ways to make those around her feel loved and cared for. Known for her joyful personality, Janis could often be found wearing one of her funny T-shirts, earning her the nickname “Grandma T-Shirt”. Her warmth, kindness, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Above all, Janis treasured her family. She especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother and caring grandmother who could be found with the dogs she adored, Daisy and Boo Boo, constantly by her side. Her loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving daughters, Kristy Carvey and Kelly (Chris) Mundt; four grandchildren, Jalen Burks, Benjamin Mundt, Alyson Mundt and Josalyn Mundt; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund (Betty) Emlaw; loving husband, Larry Carvey; and brother, Tom Emlaw. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 with visitation one-hour prior. Memorial Contributions in her honor can be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Hilarity for Charity (HFC).
