Jason Robert "Smitty" Smith's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we share the unexpected passing of our beloved Jason Robert "Smitty" Smith on December 22nd, 2024, in Spring Lake, Michigan. Born on May 10th, 1973, in Lansing, Michigan, Jason filled our lives with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
He was the devoted husband to Kelly, and the proud father of our dear Trevor and Jordan. Jason was the anchor of our family, always there with a warm smile and a helping hand. He found true happiness surrounded by friends and loved ones, and our home was always filled with his laughter and love.
Jason had a unique gift—he could fix anything. His vision to always repair and help others wasn't just a skill but a reflection of his generous spirit. Starting in August 2000, he took on a new journey as the HVAC Service Manager at West Michigan Heating and Cooling. His hardworking nature and intelligence shone brightly in everything he did.
Family meant everything to Jason. He was the cherished son of Linda and Leigh Smith, and a loving brother to Angela, Aaron (and his wife Jessica), and Leigh Jr. (and his wife Michele). His nieces and nephews—Danielle, Nicholas, Dominic, Cameron, Connor, and Brian—held a special place in his heart. We find comfort knowing that Jason has been reunited with his brother Brian, sister-in-law Michele Zimmerman, and parents-in-law Russ and Pam Zimmerman, who preceded him in death.
He loved spending time with friends, and our home was always open to those who needed a friend or a helping hand. His supportive, creative, organized, hardworking, and intelligent nature made him the person we all leaned on. Our cherished pets, Jasmine the cat and Tucker the dog, were always by his side, adding joy to our family life.
We invite all who knew and loved Jason to join us in celebrating his life at the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church (406 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456). Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the Mass at church, and a luncheon after the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to our children's education fund, honoring Jason's legacy and his dedication to supporting his loved ones or our family's Go Fund Me Account.
Jason, you will forever be in our hearts. We will miss your laughter, your kind spirit, and the way you always brought us together. Until we meet again.
Arrangements entrusted to the Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456). Share memories with the family on their online guestbook at http://www.sytsemafh.com.
