Dear MaryLou, I just learned of Cousin Jay's passing. I had tried to contact Jay in the past but never had a response to my emails. Last month I reached out to the South Bend Osthimers to get a contact email for him, and received this obituary today. I send you my sincere sympathies and, in retrospect, wish I had been more diligent in reaching out to Jay. I have many fond memories of Jay that are based on our younger days. I think Jay was the closest in age to me of all the Osthimer Cousins--I did not know he had a sister. I especially remember a summertime visit to Wabash when I was about 17 and spent a lot of of time with Jay--he'd have been about 21--and he introduced me to the Jazz of Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck and others. I still listen to them all the time through Spotify. I guess I am the last one of our generation of Osthimer cousins. I wish you and your family all the very best and am sorry for your loss. I was so sorry to hear of Jay's passing. He is now out of this crazy world and looking over all of your family MaryLou. Cherishing the memories will ease the pain in time.
