Jean Ann Lundell's Obituary
Jean Ann (Holmes) Lundell, age 79, passed away from cancer, peacefully, on May 6, 2026, at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon, Michigan. Jean was born on September 10, 1946, to James and Ann (Kresnak) Holmes at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon.
Jean was a proud graduate of Muskegon Heights High School. Class of 1964. She went on to college to become a teacher and was employed by Reeths-Puffer Schools as an elementary teacher until her retirement.
In her retirement years, she followed her lifelong dream of helping animals, especially cats. This was her mission in life. She poured her heart, soul, and all her resources into making life better for her animal friends. This included many years of volunteer service at Noah Project, a no-kill non-profit organization. She also served on the Board of Directors there.
Then, in her last 10 years, her home was the place to be for her lucky cat and dog friends. She also helped feed the outside animals, such as birds, squirrels, and others. Her lifelong mission was complete, and she passed that test with flying colors.
Jean was a kind, gentle, happy, and contented person, and people loved being around her. Anyone who knew her could testify to these facts.
She is survived by her cousins, Marilyn Kresnak and Tom Kresnak; her close animal-loving friend, Denise Thompson; and her deceased cousin Carolyn's husband, Jim McClain.
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Muskegon, Michigan, close to her parents' and her sister, Sharon's, graves.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Heaven Can Wait Animal Haven at P.O. Box 23, Ferrysburg, MI 49409.
Those close to Jean wish to thank the staff at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence and Sytsema Funeral Home for their incredible skills and empathetic ways of providing their services to families through the most traumatic times of losing a loved one.
