Jean Ann Vanderwest's Obituary
Mrs. Jean Ann Vanderwest, age 89, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at a local hospital. She was born May 24, 1925 in Muskegon to the late Thomas and Rose (Brace) Gringhuis. Jean graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1943. She married Richard “Buck” Vanderwest in Muskegon Hts. on July 5, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2007. Jean had been employed as a Bookkeeper for many years with Norge Corp., ProGas and retired from Hall Electric. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was an avid roller skater and square dancer with memberships in the Pairs ‘n Squares in Muskegon and the Tulip City Squares in Holland, MI. She is survived by her children, G. Ronald Vanderwest and Nancy Vanderwest both of Muskegon; also many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Broekema and brother, Charles “Butch” Swenor. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 1011 Second Street, Muskegon, MI 49440, with Rev. Mark D. Miller officiating. VISITATION will be Friday, 6-8 p.m. at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest in Laketon Twp. Cemetery. MEMORIAL contributions may be given to Central United Methodist Church.
