Jean Ann (Chaney) Slorf's Obituary
Mrs. Jean Ann (Chaney) Slorf, age 71, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 18, 2011. She was born in Muskegon on February 18, 1940 to Edward and Ann (Kenny) Chaney and was a life resident of the area. She graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1958 and soon after went to work as a clerk for Continental Motors Corporation for 5 years. On January 26, 1963, she married Lawrence K. Slorf at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church and worked as a homemaker for a good part of her life. After the children were grown, she continued working in housekeeping for the Vikings Lodge in Lakeside. Jean was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was involved in the women’s guild, served funeral lunches, volunteered for the annual church bazaar and was a greeter before Masses. She also was active with the Vikings Linne Lodge #57 and the Red Hat Society. Jean’s passion in life was her family and her Catholic faith. She especially enjoyed her trips to Gulf Shores, AL, and spending as much time as she could with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife and mother and she will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS include her husband, Lawrence K. Slorf; her 4 beloved children, Kimberly (Larry) Veihl, Lisa (Steven) Woodland, Debra (Timothy) Stafford, Kenneth (Marlene) Slorf; her 9 grandchildren, Jennifer Steffens, Zachary DeWeerdt, Nathan and Stephanie Woodland, Christian Kramer, Mason Stafford, Elise and Haley Slorf; her 3 great-grandchildren, Gavin Steffens, Chase Rodecap, and Madelyn Woodland; her mother-in-law, Ebba G. Slorf; her sister, Marilyn (Don) Dion; her sister-in-law, Christine (Bill) Ogden; special friend, Linda Herbert; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Mary Chaney, 1 grandson, Matthew Woodland, and 1 nephew, Michael Stone. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz as celebrant. VISITATION with Jean’s family will be one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Tuesday in Marian Chapel at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
