Jeanne A. Hyma's Obituary
Mrs. Jeanne A. Hyma, 83, passed away Sunday evening, November 26, 2023, in Muskegon. She was born July 24, 1940, to Raymond and Violet (Halleck) Carlson in Muskegon and was a lifelong resident. Jeanne was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, where she was involved with Hearts & Hands, The Quilt Club (Patchers at the Lakeshore “PALS”) and the Doll Club. Jeanne always went out of her way to greet new people and make them feel welcomed. She celebrated her Swedish heritage and her husband’s Dutch heritage through food and artwork. Jeanne worked as a Registered Nurse at Hackley Hospital for many years before retiring. Her love of nursing started as a young girl reading nursing series. On August 16, 1963, she married Bill Hyma, and he survives her along with three children: Amy (John) Ratter, Paula (Gil) Decker, Rick Hyma; seven grandchildren: Joseph Mazor, Ellie Ratter, Sydney (Caleb) Benedict, Joshua and Megan Decker, Cody and Caleb Hyma; one great-grandchild: Lily; and one brother Ron Carlson. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Jen Hyma and her sister-in-law Jackie Carlson. A service to remember and celebrate Jeanne’s life will be held Friday, December 1, at 11:00 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 973 W. Norton Ave., Norton Shores. Visitation will be Thursday, November 30 from 5-8 PM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey, Norton Shores, MI 49444, and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place at Norton Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Jeanne may be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation or the Christian Care Nursing Center.
