Jeffrey A. Balcom's Obituary
Jeffrey Alan Balcom, age 63, passed away following a brief illness in Muskegon, MI, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Jeff was born in Muskegon on July 19, 1961, and he graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1981. A lifelong resident of the Muskegon area, Jeff spent the last 15 years working as a delivery driver for Muskegon Automotive. In his younger years Jeff loved to spend outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. When he was a young man he worked as a certified line service technician for Executive Air, which sparked a lifelong interest in aviation. He also worked as a professional window cleaner for 20 years for Grand Haven Window Cleaners. He had an appreciation for classic cars and collecting antiques. He was very proud of his family’s contributions to the history of Muskegon, particularly his grandparents’ construction of Sherman Bowling Center and their integral part in establishing the city’s public transportation system. Jeff was not a man of many words, but if he felt a certain way about someone they would certainly know it. He was a hard worker and he loved having daily phone calls with his son, Jeremy.
Jeff will be lovingly remembered by his son, Jeremy (Crystal) Church; two grandchildren: Karlie and Matthew Church; mother, Carolyn Bayne; father, William Balcom; eight siblings: Susan (Dave) Weatherbee, Patricia (Kim) Gradisher, David Bayne, Robert (Holly) Bayne, Kenneth (Tammy) Bayne, Melynda (Jeffery) Reed, Monica (Terry) Griffin, and Gary Bayne; and five nieces and nephews: Holly Hekkema, William Hekkema, John McDonald, Courtney Weatherbee, and Shelby Weatherbee. He was preceded in death by his step-father, William Bayne.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Jeff at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 28, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with a VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pound Buddies. Please sign the family’s online guestbook and share memories at sytsemafh.com
